Prototec Learning : About

We need your help!

We want to make this product better. While we don't compete with commercial solutions, we don't want them to be the only option when it comes to learning. If you have ideas that may increase this platform's usefulness, or if we're failing to meet expections, we'd like to hear from you.

Licence

Prototec Learning is free to use. Its development and hosting is covered by advertising.

Privacy

Test data is not stored during testing or marking. Test data is only stored if a certificate is generated. The data is (aes128) encrypted with an individual random key that is embedded into each certificate's URL. The key is not saved (or logged), ensuring that each certificate and test is inaccessible to everyone (including Prototec) except those with the secret certificate URLs. Certificates are marked for deletion 365 days after their creation. However, certificates can be deleted by replacing cert with purg in the URL, so only share certificate URLs to those who can be trusted. Prototec Learning and its data is currently hosted in the US on Google's GCP Platform. All of this should be irrelevant as personal information is not entered into tests as per the Terms.

About

All test worksheets are randomly generated, so no two are likely to ever be the same. Students can test as often as they like and receive instant feedback. They can also reward themselves with certificates, which they can print or share online. Certificates link back to the original test, so educators can see where students require assistance.

Maths Stages

Stages were created to follow the NZ and AU curriculums.

The table tests are designed to cover all rote times tables in as few questions as possible. From 0x0 to 10x10, there are 121 different tables. However, since factor order does not change the result (i.e 6x7 is the same as 7x6) nearly half of the questions can be eliminated. This reduces the number of questions down to 66, which is the basis of the 'Tables 0-10 Test'. Also, students need not always be tested on the 0,1 and 10 times tables as simple rules (ax0=0, ax1=a and ax10=a0,) reduce the need to practise. Dropping them leaves a mere 36 questions, which is the basis of the 'Tables 2-9 Test' and is quick to complete.

Once all the tables have been generated, they are randomly assigned between different types of table questions (Missing Product, Factor, Dividend or Divisor - order of the factors is also randomised where practical). This ensures the same equation is seen several different ways, which we hope helps learning.

Māori Stages

Macrons are optional and letter doubling to denote macrons is also accepted.
